Let me start by saying…. I salute programmers!!!

Because programming is confusing especially if you are just diving into it for the first time. Plus, Logic was not my best math topic.

What’s this post really about??

I recently had another enlightening bible study with a friend of mine. We were looking at God as a Judge and King over all. While God loves us so much and wants the best for us He is also a principled God; a God of integrity and one that never goes back on His word. Also, the day before we sat down together while doing my own private study, the same topic came up and 2 key bible references stuck with me.

The first is John 12:48 (Good News Translation)

Those who reject me and do not accept my message have one who will judge them. The words I have spoken will be their judge on the last day!

This is the bearer of our truth value, our declarative sentence and the object of our belief. We know the Word is true. We will be judged by our faith in Christ and not just that but also our obedience to Gods word.

When we hear “true” or “false” or statements like “if a is true and b is true then c is false”, these are Boolean conditions (pharmacy students will understand). I will admit outright that I have no clue how it works except for what they taught us in senior secondary math class.

From my research (Wikipedia is your friend), I know John 12:48 uses a logical conjunction.

A logical conjunction is an operation using a logical connective that connects two logical values together. In John 12:48, these are ‘those who reject me AND do not accept my message’.

This condition only produces a value of “true” if both conditions or logical values are “true”. It looks like this:

True    True  –  True

True    False  –  False

False    True  –  False

False    False  –  False

 

Jesus in John 12:48, in other words, is saying, ‘believe in me AND obey my word’. This is going to be our logical value or proposition.  This being true leads to a life of peace joy and assurance that our sufficiency is in Christ.

I love the message version of Psalm 34 and it is the second verse that stuck with me because it tells of God’s love for us and his desire to have us close to him. (I have included the message version link here)

Believing in Jesus and still not doing what he says is rebellion and whoever does not do this will be condemned.

Sometimes we will struggle with knowing what God wants and how to obey Him but just as 1 Corinthians 2:15-16 says we already have the answer because we have the Spirit of God. I have also learned according to Philippians 2:12-13 that while God is working in us through His power, we work out our salvation by responding to the impressions he lays on our Spirit.

There are also many people who without even knowing live ‘good’ lives and do what is right but they have marked false in the first condition which is to believe in Christ. The clear condition of not believing and not obeying is judgment and condemnation.

Irrespective of where we fall conditionally or logically, God still loves us and He wants everyone to come to Him, and He has told us how to come to Him which is through Jesus. An example is Cornelius in Acts 10, who fell into the proposition of “false_true”. He was a good man but had not been born again through Christ. But God took note of him and sent Peter, Why? Because God loves us and wants us to be saved.
